Dr Brian Henderson

Director Composite Expert, Designer and Lead Trainer

Brian has worked at senior levels in industry for many years, He moved to an academic research position and was awarded his PhD in Composite Analysis from the University of Manchester in 2004. During this time Brian was a consultant specialist to ACG and several formula1 teams in the field of composite design, manufacture and experimental destructive evaluation of composites and NDT testing.

As a professional teacher Brian has an extensive teaching and training portfolio, his enthusiasm and ability to make composite material subject accessible and understandable and his friendly approach have enabled him to influence sector skills councils and deliver composite training to tier 1 aviation teams as well as independent learners of all ages.

Bernadette Gibbs

Business Director Manufacturer and Trainer

Bernadette is a current Visiting Professor of Royal Academy of Engineering in design and creativity. She has extensive engineering consultancy experience in composite and manufacturing together with teaching and learning experiences in the college and university sectors. She expanded and utilised her composite and manufacturing knowledge to manage projects focused within advanced engineering sectors for growth and diversity linked to products and new learning approaches.

Before joining NCE she managed composite manufacturing and training programmes for tier 1 and 2 aerospace companies and the management of their supplier chain. While working with these she expanded her knowledge of composite materials to include the manufacture, performance and degradation of aerospace materials.

Lee Waugh

Composite Analysis and Product Design

Lee is a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate who has worked closely with North Composites Engineering during his studies. During this time Lee has gained knowledge and experience with composite manufacture, testing and analysis techniques, allowing for this to influence his MSc project work which focused upon experimental testing methods of composite materials and analysis of composite materials used within wind turbine blades with the use of FEA and data analysis packages such as Python.

Outside of his studies, Lee has worked on projects within North Composites gaining extensive electrical design skills and growing his knowledge within the field of composites. Lee has gained experience using multiple programming languages including Python, Java, Javascript and C.

Michael Donnelly

Specialist Bonded Structures Repairer and Trainer

Michael started his composites career in the manufacturing of light utility hovercrafts and was initially trained by the Marine Builders Training Trust. This initial experience started a lifelong career in the composites industry. His long experience and track record in the aircraft industry is well established, he has worked both in the UK and Middle East both managing and setting up composite workshops for Boeing 747 aircraft and as an active repairer of both composite structures and metal to metal bonded structures.
He ran the composite workshop for British Airways enacting a TQM approach to composite repairs, before joining Saudi Arabian Airlines as their composites specialist with the responsibility of repairing composite components on King Abdul Aziz`s Lockheed Tristar.

Michaels most recent role lay in leading, training, and directing all technical and practical aspects relating to overseeing the operation of a state-of-the-art advanced composite repair workshop, hands on with technical and complex AOG repairs, technical direction in training of personnel.

Douglas Forsyth

Specialist Bonded Structure Repairer and Trainer

Douglas is a highly self-motivated and proactive aircraft mechanical engineer with over 20 years experience in metalwork and composite repairs, working on live aircraft and repair stations. He has extensive experience of running the daily operations of aircraft component repair stations organizing manpower, materials and workflow, ensuring all AD/SBs and standards are upheld and procedures adhered to for bonded structures such as composite repairs, metal skin repairs, inspection and materials organisation.
Douglas is adept at managing aircraft refurbishment from onboarding a client, estimating work, resource management, painting and interior shops through to delivery of a quality end product. He has an excellent working knowledge of CMM & SRM requirements.

His hands-on approach means he has exceptional skills in metal skin repair and composite skin repair, with experience of both structural repairs and interior fittings he is a skilled and valuable engineer. His open friendly attitude makes him a valuable asset in team management roles and front facing customer relations while his knowledge and proficient in negotiations with professional bodies and the CAA make him a valuable asset.
